Mothers
Dr Catherine Sykes believes that motherhood is a rewarding but challenging time in a woman's life. It is only in becoming a mother that one can truly understand the hard job of mothering, the difficult choices, the changes in our relationships with people and our bodies.
Catherine's starting point with mothers is that no matter how hard we try we can never mother to perfection. She helps mothers deal with the transitions in their motherhood journey. She has experience of working with women who are pregnant and want to explore their feelings towards their changing bodies, pregnant women who experience nausea and vomiting, mothers who feel sad that motherhood was not what they expected, supporting mothers in returning to work and dealing with the stress of managing difficult toddler behaviour.
Catherine supports mothers to find the best techniques for dealing with issues with their children. Catherine believes there is not a 'one-size fits all' way of parenting. It is a very personal journey. She helps mothers to define their preferred parenting style and looks at ways to support mothers in implementing techniques that work for the child, the mother and the rest of the family. At the same time, Catherine values consistency, a caring approach and seeks to ensure that all parties are comfortable with the techniques.
